Jerry Kelly

qualifier in Plano, Texas to land a spot in the 2011 British Open field.

The 44-year-old Kelly will be making his 11th start in the British Open.  His best finish was a tie for 26th in 2006.

Rafalski retires for the right reason

Former Wisconsin Badger hockey standout Brian Rafalski has announced his retirement and he’s leaving the game for the right reason.

The 37-year-old defenseman leaves the Detroit Red Wings with one-year left on his contract, a deal that would have paid him $6-million next season.

Rafalski said he wants to enjoy his family while his health is still good.  He was limited to 63 games this past season due to various injuries.

The sports world is full of players that have a hard time saying goodbye.  But Rafalski has played 11 seasons in the NHL with New Jersey and Detroit.  He’s a three-time Stanley Cup winner and a 2-time Olympic silver medalist.  Rafalski has tallied 79 goals and 515 points in milestone career.

He’s no doubt made a lot of money and likely invested well.  Not that it’s ever easy to pull the plug, but Rafalski loves his family and is ready to give up the rough and tough NHL for a little R & R and some fun times with family and friends.

Way to bo Brian!

The Brewers returned the favor by sweeping Washington.  The Nationals took 3 straight from the Brewers in Washington D.C. earlier this season.

JFC water action questioned

Will Wisconsin waters be at more risk for contamination under terms of the budget? Amber Meyer Smith with Clean Wisconsin said action this week by the Joint Finance Committee could do just that. “They voted to have the DNR repeal and recreate all of a decade old rule package that protects Wisconsin lakes, rivers and streams from pollution that runs off from farm fields, construction zones and city streets,” Meyer Smith said. “This is a huge environment rollback, and I can only hope that the Joint Finance Committee did not intend this big of an action, and we ask them to fix this so that Wisconsin’s waterways are not left vulnerable.”
