School farms may combat obesity

The Wisconsin Medical Society is hoping school farms can help deal with a health crisis. The School Garden Initiative will have kids grow their own food encouraging more fruits and vegetables are eaten daily.

“In particular this connection to childhood obesity epidemic is important to us,” says Sheeba McCants with the Society’s Down to Earth Foundation.

Capitol metal detectors come down

Security measures at the state Capitol building continue to be dialed back. Capitol Police this morning removed metal detectors that had been in place at all five of the entrances to the building currently being used. The move comes as officials prepare to fully re-open all eight of the ground floor doors to the building next week.

The reduced security levels mark an end to months of restrictions for those visiting the Capitol. At times throughout the debate on the Governor’s collective bargaining bill and the state budget, the building has seen all doors barred or just a handful of entrances open. [Read more...]

Leuer to make 17th pre-draft visit today (AUDIO)

If Jon Leuer doesn’t see the inside of another airplane for a while, he probably won’t mind.  Leuer was at his 16th pre-draft workout yesterday, this time in Milwaukee, working out for the Bucks.

The former Wisconsin Badgers will make one more visit today (#17) in Dallas with the Mavericks.  He’s projected by most to be a second round talent in Thursday night’s NBA Draft, but his visit to Dallas just might be an indication that some view him as a potential late first round possibility as well.  The Mavericks have the 26th pick in the first round. Bucks make offer to Mbah A Moute

With Luc Richard Mbah A Moute headed for restricted free agency, the Milwaukee Bucks made a qualifying offer to the former UCLA Bruin yesterday.

The move allows the Bucks to match any contract offer made by other teams. 

Mbah A Moute averaged 6.7 points and 5.3 rebounds in 79 games with the Bucks last season.

Marcum to pitch for Brewers today

Milwaukee Brewers right hander Shaun Marcum will make his scheduled start against the Tampa Bay Rays in the series finale this afternoon at Miller Park. 

Marcum injured his hip flexor in his last start in Boston on Friday, but he checked out fine after a pregame workout on Tuesday.

Marcum enters today’s game with a 7-2 record and a 2.85 ERA, tops among Milwaukee starters.
