Leuer gets first NBA shot with the Bucks

After a number of first round moves by the Milwaukee Bucks at the NBA

draft, things settle down in the second round.  The Bucks used their second round pick (40th overall) on Badger forward Jon Leuer.

The 6’10 Leuer averaged 18.3 points per game with the Wisconsin Badgers during his senior season last year.  He shot over 36% from 3-point range over his career. 

Leuer is the 5th Badger player to be selected by the Bucks and the first since Rashard Griffith in 1995.

Prior to Leuer, the last Badger to be drafted by an NBA team was Alando Tucker, taken with the 29th overall pick by the Phoenix Suns in 2007.

Focus on Energy fights for funds

There’s an effort to convince the governor to continue increased funding to the Focus on Energy program.

Saying energy efficiency creates jobs, a coalition of 124 businesses signed a letter asking Governor Scott Walker to veto a portion of the state budget that rolls back previously-approved funding to the statewide energy efficiency and renewable energy program. Keith Reopelle of Clean Wisconsin says without the veto, there will be higher energy bills and job creation will be stifled. [Read more...]

Badgers to play in Chicago Invitational

The Badger men’s basketball team will make a trip to Chicago over the Thanksgiving weekend.  Wisconsin headlines the field for the sixth annual Chicago Invitational Challenge, Nov. 25-26, at the Sears Centre Arena.

Wofford, Missouri-Kansas City, Longwood, Prairie View A & M, Brigham Young, Bradley and Nevada round out the field. 

Opening-round dates and exact matchups are still to be determined. 

The Badgers return 11 players from last year’s Sweet 16 squad, including a starting backcourt of All-American senior guard Jordan Taylor and sophomore Josh Gasser.  The Badgers finished 25-9 last season.

Veterans home groundbreaking

A groundbreaking ceremony will be held today at the site of a new Skilled Nursing Facility for veterans in Chippewa Falls.

The $20 million, 72-bed facility is scheduled to open next year, and will be the third such home in the state. Brian Marshall with the Department of Veterans Affairs says there is a need for such a facility to serve northwestern Wisconsin. [Read more...]

Gas prices continue heading down

Wisconsin hit a record high for gas prices in May, with regular unleaded topping $4.11 a gallon. Since then, Pam Moen with AAA-Wisconsin says we’ve been fortunate to see the statewide average drop almost 50-cents, to about $3.63.

Moen says that’s good news as we approach the busy July 4th holiday weekend, which starts next Thursday. However, it’s still well above the average price from this time last year of $2.67 a gallon. [Read more...]
