Former North Carolina State quarterback Russell Wilson has committed to Wisconsin and plans to play football for the Badgers and attend graduate school at UW beginning this fall.
Wilson played quarterback for three seasons at North Carolina State before playing baseball this summer with Ashville in the Colorado Rockies farm system. In his three seasons with the Wolfpack, Wilson earned All-ACC honors each year and threw for 8,545 yards and 76 touchdowns. That yardage total is third-best in NC State history and his TD total is second-best in school history.
Heading into this season, his 76 TD passes are third-most among active players. It’s also those kind of statistics that have many of the national writers putting the Badgers in the driver’s seat for a Big Ten title.
A few remained cautious, but many feel Wilson will take the Badgers to the Big Ten title and perhaps well beyond.
A rough showing by UW quarterbacks in the spring game certainly has everyone excited about Wilson, who graduated at NC State in just three years. He can pass, he can run and he’s smart.
Badger coach Bret Bielema talked this morning with Wisconsin’s broadcast team, Matt LePay and Mike Lucas on WTSO Radio in Madison.
