A competency exam has been ordered for a South Dakota murder suspect apprehended in Wisconsin. A Dane County Court commissioner has ordered the mental evaluation for 41 year-old James McVay, who was taken into custody while driving a stolen car near Madison last weekend. He’s charged in South Dakota with killing an elderly woman. McVay, who walked away a week ago from a transitional program for recently paroled prisoners before killing Maybelle Schein at her Sioux Falls home and stealing her car, faces extradition back to South Dakota to stand trial. The exam will determine if he’s competent to waive extradition. McVay reportedly told investigators that he killed the 75 year-old retired nurse and stole her vehicle as part of a plan to drive to Washington, D.C. and kill President Barack Obama.
