It was a shocking turnaround in the effort to remove the Marinette Mayor Robert Harbick from office. The City Council Monday could not muster enough votes to approve hiring a prosecuting attorney to pursue possible charges against Harbick.
Alderpersons Carol Kempka and Terry Setunsky changed their minds and now say the process of removing Harbick will be too costly and time consuming.
Mayor Harbick says he was just as surprised as everyone else at the sudden turn of events. “I think it’s a good move. Marinette can’t afford to spend this amount of money on nothing.”
A formal complaint was filed by a Marinette resident against the mayor following his drunk driving arrest last month. With this latest council action, it appears the effort to remove Harbick from office may be dead.
