John Kuhn said he never wanted to leave Green Bay and he’s glad to have
resigned with the Packers.
When asked about his free agent experience he replied, “It was like my career, ups and downs, a roller coaster ride. Sometimes you get a little nervous, because you think, ‘man, maybe I won’t be back.’ But I’m very happy the way everything turned out.”
Kuhn said he didn’t visit any other teams because of the short free agency window.
Kuhn won’t be able to practice until Thursday, because of the new free agency rules. When he does, his main competition for the starting job will be Quinn Johnson. Korey Hall signed a free agent deal with New Orleans.
The Packers lost their 3rd down back from a year ago, Brandon Jackson. He signed a free agent deal with the Cleveland Browns. Jackson was outstanding in blitz pickup, protecting quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Kuhn said he’s ready to take on more of that role with the Packers as well.
In terms of the number of touches? Kuhn never was a guy that worried about his role. Sure, every player likes to carry or catch the football. But Kuhn is about winning. If that means blocking and playing special teams, then he’ll do the best he can to be the best blocker and special teams player on the field.
What excites the Packers fullback is the fact that the core group of players that captured the Super Bowl last season is back together again, trying to make it
back-to-back titles.
