Proposed legislation would strengthen legal protections for domestic violence victims. State Senator Van Wanggard is a former police officer with firsthand experience. He says many abusers under restraining orders often relocate to Wisconsin and resume the abuse. “The problem is, for years when we’ve had restraining orders that have come from other states, and we have person come here to our state, we can also have the offender follow that person,” said Wanggard, who’s drafted the bill with state Representative Amy Loudenbeck. The bill addresses current law that often prevents victims in Wisconsin from obtaining restraining orders against individuals who are abusing, threatening or harassing them from other states.
Milwaukee to host Nat’l Governors Assocation meeting
The National Governors Association will be holding its annual meeting in Milwaukee in 2013. Governor Scott Walker made the announcement this morning, drawing on his experience at the NGA meeting held in Salt Lake City last month.
“It’s a unique opportunity for governors to come together from both political parties, to talk about the challenges we face state by state.”
Rodgers sits out Monday workout!
Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers wanted to practice on Monday, but
coach Mike McCarthy held him out of workouts because of a sprained foot. McCarthy said the injury was not serious and he wouldn’t say if Rodgers will play at all in the preseason finale against the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday.
Rodgers didn’t play in the final preseason game last year and he was 100% healthy at that time, so one would believe that he won’t be suiting up on Thursday against the Chiefs.
If Rodgers doesn’t play, that means Matt Flynn and Graham Harrell will get all of the reps in Thursday night’s game.
After watching Randall Cobb and Ryan Taylor limp off the practice field yesterday, Mike McCarthy ended the workout 25-minutes early.

Brewers surpass 3-million tickets sold today
The Milwaukee Brewers announced today that the club has eclipsed 3-million

The Brewers have 15 home games remaining in the 2011 regular season.
Marinette County wildfire continues
The Department of Natural Resources says a wildfire burning in Marinette County is contained, although DNR forestry supervisor Mike Folgert says the blaze will likely remain active for some time.
The fire started last week in a remote wooded area between Peshtigo and Marinette. Folgert says state and local fire fighters were able to responded quickly and put fire breaks in place to circle the entire 100 acre area. He says they are confident it will remain in that area and will not pose a risk to additional property. [Read more...]
