A Clark County couple feels lucky to be alive after their home was hit by an EF-2 tornado Tuesday evening. Irene and Roy Tinkey live about 10 miles west of Marshfield and were inside their house when the quick-moving storm hit at around 5:30 p.m.

Avery conviction upheld

Steven Avery

Steven Avery’s murder conviction has been upheld. Avery was convicted in 2007, of party to first-degree intentional homicide, in the 2005 death of 25 year-old Teresa Halbach. The Wisconsin Court of Appeals affirmed Avery’s conviction, as well as a circuit court order denying his request for a new trial. The appeals court rejected Avery’s Fourth Amendment challenge to a search of his trailer; upheld the circuit court’s decision to exclude evidence that others near the crime scene at the time of the murder may have committed it; upheld the circuit court’s decision to remove a juror and substitute an alternate juror after deliberations began; and concluded that Avery’s attorneys gave him effective representation in dealing with the juror substitution.

Abortion bill on fall agenda

Abortion will be the subject of legislation to be introduced at the Capitol this fall. The bill will be known as the Woman’s Protection Act. Barbara Lyons is with Wisconsin Right to Life. “The Woman’s Protection Act is extremely important for Wisconsin women and for Wisconsin families,” she said. “We think it’s a way of further protecting women from the damaging impact of abortions.”

The bill would restrict use of web-cam chemical abortions. “A woman could be in Wild Rose Wisconsin, talking to an abortionist over a webcam, who’s in Milwaukee or Madison or San Francisco,” said Lyons. “We believe it’s an attempt by the proponents of abortion to bring abortion into the rural communities.” Lyons didn’t know whether the procedure was being used yet in Wisconsin, but said it has been used in Iowa. “There’s new technology that’s being used in some parts of the country, where a doctor can videoconference with a woman, and be able to provide her the medication that way,” said Lisa Subeck of NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin. “It looks like they’re looking to interfere with that ability.” [Read more...]

Packer teammates scuffle in practice (AUDIO)

It’s common  to see two members of the same team mix it up during a training camp practice.  But it’s a bit odd that two members from the same unit would go at it.

That’s what happened on Tuesday when Green Bay Packers backup center Nick McDonald and reserve tackle Marshall Newhouse went after each other following the final play of a team drill.  It caught teammate Josh Sitton a bit by surprise. [Read more...]
