It was a rough start to the school year for students in eastern Dane County. The Dane County Sheriff’s Department says the tires on 16 school buses were slashed sometime overnight, just as kids were getting ready for the first days of school on Thursday.
The buses serve students in Cambridge and Deerfield, which did not cancel classes. Cambridge Superintendent Bernie Nikolay say parents were asked to find other ways to get their kids to school.
Nikolay says classes were able to start almost one time today, despite the delay.
Elise Schaffer with the Dane County Sheriff’s Department says it’s not yet known if one person or a group of vandals were responsible for the damage. The Sheriff’s Department is investigating the incident.
Nikolay says the tires on the buses were expected to be fixed in time to take kids home Thursday afternoon.
