An iron ore mine being proposed for Wisconsin’s north woods is already drawing opposition from environmental and outdoors groups. A company which wants to develop the mine is looking for a rewrite of state law to expedite permitting process. Wisconsin Wildlife Federation President George Meyer believes it’s a much bigger deal than an earlier mining proposal. “It is my opinion, from having been there several times, that the Penokee Hills area, and the Bad River below it, are far more environmentally sensitive than the Crandon mine site was,” said Meyer. Gogebic Taconite has proposed the $1.5 billion open pit mine in the Penokee Range region of northern Wisconsin, and a state Senate committee is being formed to consider those revisions to state law. Badgers now 7th in both polls
The Football Badgers will enter the Big 10 season ranked 7th in both the AP and Coaches Poll. Wisconsin stayed put in the AP but dropped a spot according to the coaches after Saturday’s 59-10 win over South Dakota.
There is a big difference in the top-10 of each poll. LSU checks in at #1 according to the AP while the coaches voted Oklahoma to the top spot. Take a look at both polls HERE.
The Badgers welcome #8 Nebraska to Camp Randall and the Big 10 Saturday night for a 7:00 kickoff.
Brewers post a record setting weekend
The Milwaukee Brewers completed a 3-game sweep of the Florida Marlins this weekend at Miller Park. In doing so, a few records were broken.
Friday night, the Brewers notched a 4-1 win. Coupled with a St. Louis Cardinals loss, the Brewers were able to clinch their first ever NL Central title and first franchise Division crown since 1982.
Packers top Bears 27-17
The Green Bay Packers (3-0) continued their winning ways Sunday as they knocked off the Chicago Bears (1-2) at Soldier Field 27-17. It was a rematch of last years NFC Championship game and finished in the same result.
Packers QB Aaron Rodgers tossed for 297-yards and connected with TE Jermichael Finley 3-times for scores. For Finley, the trio of touchdowns sets a career high. On the day, Finley caught 7-balls for 85-yards. Rodgers on Finley’s day…
Soggy Soldier Field today
This was the scene earlier this morning at Soldier Field in Chicago. A heavy
shower came through but the Bears had the field covered. The tarp is now coming off, about 1 1/2 hours before kickoff between the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears.
The Packers, despite having the worst passing defense in the NFL after two games, they’re off to a 2-0 start, tied with the Lions going into their division opener today.
The Bears struggled in a loss to the Saints last week and are seeking balance in their offense. Offensive coordinator Mike Martz was under fire this week after the Bears threw the ball 52 times and ran it just 11. QB Jay Cutler was sacked 6 times and hit 16 more times.
The Packers defense will have to play without safety Nick Collins for the rest of the season, replaced by Charlie Peprah, who took over for an injured Morgan Burnett last season early on.
Who wins? The Bears are not only disappointed with losing twice to the Packers last January, including a 21-14 setback in the NFC Championship game. The Bears also are smarting from last week’s loss to the Saints.
In spite of all that, the Packers got their wakeup call in a narrow win over the Panthers last week. I like the Packers to pull out a 27-20 win over the Bears.
