One of the “Wisconsin 14” is seeking a new office. State Senator Spencer Coggs, a veteran legislator with 29 years in the Senate and Assembly, has announced he’ll run for Milwaukee City Treasurer. “Milwaukee has a number of problems,” said Coggs. “Now that our current treasurer is retiring, Milwaukee needs a good steward.” Coggs says he’ll be well positioned to lobby legislators on the issue of shared revenue — which he says is not being fairly distributed to the state’s largest city. Coggs is the second Senate Democrat to announce a run for post, following Senator Tim Carpenter. Former state treasurer Dawn Marie Sass is also running for the job which pays more than $140,000 a year, compared to a legislator’s salary of just under $50,000.
