Democrats sound off to reporters saying they are not being heard by the majority. Minority lawmakers held a press conference accusing Republicans of pushing bills in the special session that would not create jobs while tabling legislation that would.
State Senator Julie Lassa (D-Stevens Point) cited a bill, stalled since June, that would leverage venture capital investments. Lassa said this early stage money is the “lifeblood” for small businesses and entrepreneurs.
Among the minority’s “job creating” measures are restoring money cut from technical colleges and boosting the Food, Dairy and Meat Production Tax Credits which Lassa says have been “oversubscribed.”
Democratic Leader Mark Miller said Republicans are instead backing tort changing bills that won’t create jobs like a drug maker liability exemption. Also on Tuesday, Governor Walker defended these tort reforms while speaking to a major business group.
