A Racine alderman is claiming racial discrimination, after the Council President suggests he resigns. Alderman Keith Fair is also criticizing media coverage of his arrest for the alleged assault of a pregnant worker at his downtown bar.
Fair said nothing during a council meeting this week, but afterward was critical of the treatment he’s received. He says it’s not the first time there’s been a “rush to judgment” when it comes to minorities.
However, Council President Greg Helding denies that’s the case. He says another week should determine if a removal proceeding is warranted, although he is currently reviewing the legal options open to the council.
Helding says he wants to wait until some of the legal proceedings play out.
Fair is due back in court next week on charges that include choking a woman who was eight weeks pregnant at the time.
