State lawmakers want to make it easier for companies to ship their products to market. Easing transportation regulations is the focus of several bills included in the special session on jobs called for by the governor last week.
Assembly Transportation committee chair Jerry Petrowski says one of the biggest measures includes overweight permits for vehicles carrying sealed containers and agricultural loads up to 90,000 pounds on six axles.
Another bill would extend an agricultural exemption for seasonal weight limits through the end of December. Petrowski says that will allow crops to get to market sooner, especially in years where there is a lot of rain and farmers have difficulty getting off the field.
Petrowski says all of the bills put Wisconsin on a level playing field with neighboring states and help cut down on transportation costs, which he says is a recipe for job growth.
