Several dozen members of the community gathered with family members in Racine to remember a woman killed last week as the result of an abusive relationship, leaving two children without a mother.
The brother of 27-year old Gwynevere Wright urged abuse victims to “get away,” at the first sign of abuse noting there was pattern of incidents in his sister’s relationship. He said Gwyn moved to Racine from Chicago about a year ago with her kids to give them a better life.
The victim’s aunt said it’s still hard to accept that she is gone, along with her great smile.
The gathering included songs for peace, and came ahead of an expected court appearance today for the suspect in Gwyn Wright’s stabbing murder. Wright’s boyfriend was also accused of taking his two-year-old daughter, leading to an Amber Alert that ended without incident in Chicago.
