Appleton Papers Incorporated won a major court battle this week when a federal judge ruled that the company is not responsible for the PCB cleanup of the Fox River.
Appleton Papers had paid for a share of the project costs, along with 10 other defendants in the ongoing court battle. Work was supposed to resume earlier this month on the lower Fox River, but Appleton Papers put it on hold until the court issued its ruling.
Company spokeswoman Katherine Querard says it’s a huge victory because it dismisses al claims against Appleton Papers.

Querard says she is not sure if the company will try to recoup the $200 million already paid to help clean up the river.
