Brewers suffer 9th inning meltdown

The last couple of weeks had been pretty nice for Brewer nation.  The Brewers had won 9 of 10 by scoring runs and getting good pitching from the starters and relievers alike.

Thursday, the Brewers reminded everyone just why they are where they are.  They had a 9-3 lead over the Cubs and took a 11-9 lead into the 9th inning and wound up losing 12-11.

Starlin Castro, Anthony Rizzo and Alfonso Soriano all tallied rbi hits with Soriano providing the game winner.

After pitching 8-consecutive scoreless innings of relief, Francisco Rodriguez was given an opportunity to close out a win for the Brewers.  But Rodriguez couldn’t slam the door.

The bullpen meltdown spoiled a spectacular day for Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy.  Lucroy clubbed a grand slam and drove in 7 runs in the loss.  Rickie Weeks also went 5 for 5 for the Brewers.

Ryan Braun and Cody Ransom also homered for the Brewers.

The Brewers return to Miller Park tonight to open a 3-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
