A Baraboo woman is a suspect in a plot to kill the wife of a man she was having an affair with. Initially, 43 year-old Stephanie McMillen was charged with stalking, but after a search of her computer, she was charged with attempted murder in Columbia County court.
Investigators allege that McMillen rented a car and disguised herself in a wig, sunglasses and bandana, then tried to lure her lover’s wife to a pond, with a story that she was looking for her cat. The woman had “a gut feeling” about the situation and did not go to the pond, acording to an investigator.
McMillen, a nurse at a Portage hospital, is also accused of stealing a vial of morphine to use on her intended victim. State investigators said they found search information on McMillen’s computer seeking information on the use of morphine, and what a lethal dose would be.
Attorneys will hold a pretrial conference October 17th, and another co urt hearing is set for October 20th. McMillan is jailed on a $10,000 bond.
