Despite a last minute challenge from another member of his caucus, state Representative Peter Barca (D-Kenosha) will again serve as Minority Leader of the chamber for the next two years.
The Kenosha Democrat says he looks forward to working with Republicans to tackle the issues facing Wisconsin and welcomes the fact that GOP leaders are pledging to work with the other side of the aisle. He says Democrats will hold them to that promise.
State Representative Brett Hulsey (D-Madison) nominated himself to oppose Barca, even though he admitted it was “a suicide mission.” The Madison Democrat argued the caucus needs better leadership to offset the losses they have suffered in the past two elections and to revitalize their message.
Barca defended his strategies over the past two years, saying it was a tumultuous time at the Capitol and he was proud of how Democrats stood together to oppose the Republican agenda.
Assembly Democrats also unanimously voted to have state Representative Sandy Pasch (D-Shorewood) serve as Assistant Minority Leader.
