As many people in Wisconsin head out to celebrate the New Year, officials are urging them to think carefully about how they plan to get home if they will be drinking.
Jack Peet with AAA says the New Year’s holiday is one of the deadliest times on roadways across the country, with deaths from traffic crashes almost triple what they are on an average day. Peet says it’s a combination of the many holiday travelers and drivers heading home after having too much to drink.
Peet says people react to alcohol differently and may think they are fine to drive after one drink, but the safest thing to do is to designate a driver or call a cab when heading home.
Police agencies around Wisconsin will be cracking down on drunk drivers tonight and tomorrow morning with extra officers out on the roads.
