Watching your weight may be difficult during holiday parties but a registered dietician has tips on how to make it happen. Barb Troy, a nutrition educator at Marquette University, suggests practicing portion control especially for holiday staples like turkey stuffing. “There is an awful lot of fat and sodium in there.”
Other tips: don’t go to the party starving as you may grab everything in sight; don’t socialize around the buffet table as you’re more likely to go for more food; and enjoy the delicious food by chewing slowly.
Troy says it helps to have a battle plan when going to a gathering and remembering the holidays are not just about “stuffing your face” but spending time with friends and family.
