With less than two weeks until pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training for the Brewers, General Manager Doug Melvin add some depth to the infield. Milwaukee is bringing back shortstop Alex Gonzalez for the 2013 season. The deal is worth $1.5 million with another $1 million in incentives according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.
Gonzalez signed a free agent deal with the Brewers before the 2012 season, however, an ACL injury cut his year short. He appeared in just 24-games hitting .259 with four home runs and 15-RBI.
The signing is not official as the Brewers 40-man roster is set and a correlating move will need to be made. The likely place for Gonzalez is coming off the bench as Milwaukee traded for their SS of the future, Jean Segura, as part of the Zack Greinke trade last July.
