Shortstop Alex Gonzalez passed his physical with the Milwaukee Brewers this week and he signed a 1-year contract worth $1.45-million with incentives that could increase that amount by another $800,000.
Gonzalez hit .259 last year in his first season with the Brewers. He played in just 81 games before suffering a torn ACL which ended his season.
To make room on the 40-man roster, the Brewers had to part with right-hander Fautino De Los Santos after obtaining the reliever from Oakland last July in the deal that sent catcher George Kottaras to the Oakland A’s. The San Diego Padres claimed De Los Santos off of waivers yesterday.
