An Oklahoma man named as a person of interest in a Waupaca County cold case double homicide, is awaiting trial in Oklahoma following a similar crime.
Glendon C. Gouker, 41, formerly of Montello and Iola, is being extradited to Waupaca County to face sexual assault charges from an assault in Iola in 1990. County Sheriff Brad Hardel says DNA links Gouker to the sexual assault.
Hardel says the violence of the Iola assault led them to look at Gouker in the murders of Tanna Togstad and Tim Mumbrue from March of 1992. Both had been stabbed to death, and Togstad was also sexually assaulted.
Court records from Oklahoma show Gouker is awaiting trial on rape and homicide charges from 2010 in Oklahoma’s Pottawatomie County. He is accused of sexually assaulting a young woman there, and killing her 19-year-old boyfriend. Gouker has pleaded not guilty to the homicide, and the prosecutor is asking for the death penalty in the case.
In the Waupaca County case, Sheriff Hardel would not comment on any evidence linking Gouker to the double murders, but he’s glad to solve one cold case. “This is huge. As a sheriff you never want unsolved crimes.”
Gouker makes his initial appearance in Waupaca County Court on Thursday.
