It’s not certain just where Green Bay and the Resch Center stands with regards to the
girls WIAA State High School basketball tournament beyond 2014, but the Green Bay community definitely put its best foot forward.
It’s been nothing but positive feedback for the Resch Center.
The Saturday afternoon session of the tournament, featuring the division 3-5 championship games, crew 9,122 fans. That’s the largest session since the evening championship session of 2003. In total, 39,731 fans attended the event, about a 9,400 increase from last years attendance at the Kohl Center in Madison.
The tournament will return to the Resch Center next year, but the site for 2015 and beyond is yet to be determined. The WIAA will likely make a decision on 2015 sooner than later.
The Resch Center holds roughly 10,000 for basketball, which is a perfect number for the girls tournament. With that number, the tournament will be able to play at or near capacity on championship Saturday in most years. The Kohl Center is just too big for the girls and the Alliant Energy Center, while it has a lot of parking, is an old, run down facility and the girls deserve better.
This shouldn’t even be an issue. When the WIAA makes its next decision, it should read GREEN BAY!!!
