More than 135,000 applicants who were awarded a permit to hunt turkey in Wisconsin this spring can begin picking up their license today. Susan Cook, section chief for the DNR Bureau of Customer and Outreach Services, says those eligible would’ve received a mailer informing them that they can pick up the document from one of the agency’s 1,300 licensing agents or by purchasing it online.
The nearly 100,000 leftover turkey permits will go on sale Monday, March 18.
Cook also says the increase in available turkey permits over the years is matching the interest in the sport. “Turkey hunting is probably the fastest growing hunting activity in Wisconsin,” she says.
The season will run from April 10 through May 21.
