Governor Scott Walker had little to say this week, when asked to react to Wednesday’s failure by the U.S. Senate to “close the gun show loophole.” The governor, on a conference call from his China trade mission, said Wisconsin already has a state background check system in place.
Walker again said that he views the issue as showing the need for increased mental health services. “That’s why it’s so important that the legislature approve the roughly $29 million of new aid we put in, for insuring that we have in every county, aggressive treatment in mental illness.”
A proposal for expanded federal background checks – closing the “gun show loophole” – failed to gain enough support in the U.S. Senate on Wednesday.
