Southeast Wisconsin and Northern Illinois law enforcement are investigating the discovery of a newborn’s body in a Chicago area load of recyclables. The body of the baby boy was found by workers sorting recycling at Resource Management in Chicago Ridge early Wednesday morning. The child was wrapped in a dark blue towel and inside a small, soft, red cooler.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office says the baby was born within the last week, and was less than full term, but probably would have survived with proper medical care.
Authorities have determined the items in the same load of recycling was picked up in either Pleasant Prairie, North Chicago or Waukegan on Monday, then taken to Kenosha where it was put on a different trailer for transport to the Chicago Ridge sorting facility.
