The body of a missing Wausau-area native whose husband has been charged in her murder has been found. Just after 3:00 p.m. Thursday, St. Paul Police announced that a body found in the Mississippi River this week is that of Kira Steger Trevino. A citizen who works in the area located the body Wednesday in an eddy, where the river current often deposits debris, near the Robert Street bridge in downtown St. Paul.
Trevino has been missing since February, when she failed to report to her job. Paul Paulos is with the St. Paul Police Department. In a press conference, he confirmed that Trevino’s body is at the medical examiner’s office. They do not know where she was placed in the river. They could not comment on any specifics about the condition of her body, or what is next for the murder case against 39 year-old Jeffrey Trevino. “It is an ongoing investigation,” said Paulos. “It doesn’t stop just because Kira has been found.”
