Brewers squander an early lead in Arizona (AUDIO)

The Milwaukee Brewers opened their four game series with the Arizona Diamondbacks on the losing end of a 5-3 decision Thursday night.

The Brewers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead off D-Backs starter Wade Miley.  Jonathan Lucroy got things started with a 2-run homer run in the 1st inning.  It was the 12th of the season for the Brewer catcher.  Carlos Gomez added his team leading 14th bomb of the season in the 3rd.  From there the Brewer bats went silent…

Yovani Gallardo started for Milwaukee and lasted 6-innings.  He allowed 3-runs on 4-hits before leaving in a 3-3 tie.  After John Axford tossed a scoreless 7th, Jim Henderson gave up the go ahead, 2-RBI single to Martin Pardo.

Before the game, OF Ryan Braun left the team on bereavement leave to deal with a family medical issue.  Braun will be out of action 3 to 7 days due to baseball’s bereavement rule.

Game 2 of the 4 game series is tonight as Tom Grozelany (1-2, 2.12 ERA) takes on Patrick Corbin (10-1, 2.40 ERA).  Tonight’s first pitch is 8:40
