Hellweg struggles again as Brewers fall to Cincinnati (AUDIO)

The much anticipated debut of Brewers pitcher Johnny Hellweg has not gone the way anyone would have hoped.  Making his third start for Milwaukee Wednesday, Hellweg was roughed up again as the Brewers fell to Cincinnati 6-2.

Hellweg lasted 4 1/3 innings allowing 4-runs on 4-hits while walking 5 as he fell to 0-3 for the season.  After his three starts with the Brewers, Hellweg’s ERA sits just under 11.  Because of his struggles, the team optioned him to the minors after Wednesday’s game…

Hellweg’s first stop back to the minors will be with the Class-A Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.  The move isn’t a demotion.  Both Nashville (AAA) and Huntsville (AA) are off so the team wants to keep Hellweg on his every 5th day schedule.  He will pitch in Appleton on Monday, July 15th.

Cincinnati starter Mike Leake was too much for the Brewer bats.  Leake made it into the 9th before being removed with one out.  He allowed the 2-runs on 4-hits to improve to 8-4 on the season.

Sean Halton connected on his first career home run in the loss for Milwaukee.

The last series before the all-star break begins tonight for the Brewers.  They are in Arizona for the first of four with the Diamondbacks.  Yovani Gallardo (7-8, 4.85 ERA) gets the ball for the Brewers against Wade Miley (5-7, 4.06 ERA) for the Diamondbacks.  First pitch is 8:40.
