Thornburg making the most of Major League chances

After 15 starts at Triple-A Nashville, Tyler Thornburg was 0-9 with a 5.79 era.  Last night, Thornburg was making his fifth start since being called up by the Milwaukee Brewers and he beat the Cardinals 5-3.

Thornburg went 6 solid innings, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits, improving to 2-1 with a 1.50 era.  He’s allowed just 5 runs in 30 innings of work in Milwaukee.

His teammate in Nashville and now in Milwaukee, Sean Halton, drove in three runs with a rbi single and a two-run homer.

The loss for the Cardinals dropped them into a first-place tie with the Cardinals atop the NL Central.

The Brewers return home to open a 10-game home stand.  They’ll play the Cincinnati Reds in the first of a three-game series tonight.  Kyle Lohse (9-9, 3.59) pitches for Milwaukee.  Cincinnati sends Mat Latos (14-5, 3.02) to the mound.
