The Green Bay Phoenix (9-3) fell to UC-Irvine 72-70 in the title game of the Holiday Hoops Classic in Las Vegas on Monday afternoon.
Alex Young scored six of his 18 points in the final minute, including the game winning basket with 1.7 seconds left. He was named the tournaments Most Valuable Player.
Green Bay’s Keifer Sykes hit a contested three-point basket with 18.5 seconds left to tie the game at 70-all before Young added the game winner for the AntEaters (6-5).
UC-Irvine led 39-33 at halftime and never trailed in the second half.
Sykes had 22 points to lead the Phoenix. Carrington Love added 16 and Greg Mays 14 for Green Bay.
