Wisconsin women’s hockey senior captain Blayre Turnbull was named the WCHA Offensive Player of the Week, while sophomore goaltender Ann-Renee Desbiens earned her fourth WCHA Defensive Player of the Week honor of the season.
Turnbull earned her first-career WCHA weekly accolade after netting three power-play goals, a school record, and adding an assist in the No. 3 Badgers’ 5-0 Senior Night blanking of No. 7 Minnesota-Duluth on Saturday. The captain recorded two power-play goals in the first period before tackling one on midway through the third period.
Turnbull now holds the school record for the most power-play goals in a single game with three, and her two short-handed goals in a single game last year are tied for the most in program history.
Desbiens is the reigning WCHA goaltending champion. She stopped all 43 shots she faced on the weekend to help UW take five of six points against UMD. Desbiens pitched shutouts both Friday and Saturday, giving her 11 for the season.
Desbiens and the 3rd ranked Badgers take their talents to Columbus, Ohio to face Ohio State this coming weekend.
