18-year-old left hander Kodi Medeiros pitched six innings of no-hit ball in the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers home opener on Sunday, but when he left, the Peoria Chiefs offense exploded and knocked off the Rattlers 11-1 in front of 5,954 fans at Fox Cities Stadium. It sent the Rattlers to an 0-4 start.
Medeiros, the 12th overall selection in the 2014 first-year player draft, threw six scoreless and hitless innings and struck out seven before departing. Medeiros (from Hawaii) walked just one batter.
Medeiros forced Peoria into 11 ground ball outs. He didn’t allow a single fly ball.
Peoria didn’t collect its first hit until the 8th inning when the wheels came off for the Timber Rattlers bullpen. The Chiefs scored seven runs in the eighth and four more in the ninth. All 13 Peoria hits came in the final two innings.
Game two of the series is tonight at 6:35 at Fox Cities Stadium.
