Financial disclosures filed by Governor Scott Walker show he owes between $5,000 and $50,000 to two credit card companies.
The governor on Wednesday tried to downplay the significance of those amounts though, claiming at an availability with media in Milwaukee that the issue is being “exaggerated.” Walker noted that disclosure documents require you to report a rather wide range for debt, and that his is “closer to the low end, and much of that’s gone right now.”
Walker added that “at the end of holidays with two kids in college…there’s a little bit of that on the report, just like we’ve had many times before. It’s just now, nationally, people pay more attention to things.”
The disclosures have been attracting more attention because the Republican governor is considering a presidential run in 2016.
