The Dane County district attorney plans to announce on Tuesday whether a white Madison police officer will face charges in the shooting death of an unarmed black teen.
In a statement released Sunday afternoon, D.A. Ismael Ozanne said he was providing the promised 48 hours’ notice he pledged to give before releasing a decision on if Madison Police Officer Matt Kenny will be charged in the shooting death of 19-year-old Tony Robinson. Ozanne said he plans to hold a press conference on Tuesday, but did not indicate the time or location.
The March 6 shooting took place at a Madison apartment, after Kenny responded to a call that Robinson had been running in and out of traffic and had assaulted someone. Madison Police have said Robinson attacked Kenny before he was shot. The death sparked more than a week of peaceful protests around Madison, including multiple walk-outs by high school students.
Ozanne has been reviewing the details of the shooting since the Department of Justice handed over the findings of its investigation on March 27.
