The body of a 21-year-old Chicago area man has been recovered from the Wisconsin River.
The man went under water in the Lower Dells area a few hundred yards south of the dam at Wisconsin Dells. Officials say he was fishing on an island, and tried to swim back to shore but got caught in the current. Family members and other witnesses along the shore tried unsuccessfully to rescue him.
Local searchers brought in sonar equipment to try to locate his body. The searchers were able to locate and recover the victim’s body at about 6:00 p.m. Monday evening.
The victim’s name is being withheld until more family members are notified.
An Edgar woman drowned in a home swimming pool early Monday. Marathon County officials are investigating the incident, where the 44-year-old victim died after Midnight Monday.
The victim’s name has not been released.
An autopsy will be performed to determine the woman’s exact cause of death.
