The Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft wrapped up on Wednesday with rounds 11 through 40.
The Milwaukee Brewers kept it in the family, selecting Jonathan Lucroy’s younger brother David, who is a pitcher at East Carolina University. David Lucroy was picked in the 20th round.
It’s the second time the Brewers selected the younger Lucroy. They made him the 29th pick back in 2011, but he opted to go to college instead of signing with the Brewers.
David Lucroy spent last summer in the Milwaukee area, pitching for the Lakeshore Chinooks of the Northwoods League. He went 3-4 with a 2.18 ERA in 16 games (13 starts) this year at ECU.
The Brewers also selected UW-Milwaukee catcher Mitch Ghelfi in the 28th round. Ghelfi’s older brother Drew was picked by the Brewers in the 25th round in 2013 but was released the following season.
Ghelfi hit .362 in Horizon League play this season.
