Milwaukee Brewers manager Craig Counsell warned his team after Sunday’s 4-3 loss to the Chicago Cubs that no team was going to feel sorry for his undermanned Brewers and they can’t start feeling sorry for themselves.
The Brewers were swept by the Cubs in four games and have now dropped five-straight games and 10 of their last 12. The Brewers managed to score just eight runs during the series loss to Chicago.
Ryan Braun had three of the Brewers eight hits, but the Brewers lacked punch after losing Aramis Ramirez, Carlos Gomez and Gerardo Parra to recent trades.
It was another frustrating loss for Kyle Lohse, who gave up all four runs on nine hits. Lohse fell to 5-13 with a 6.31 ERA and after the game, manager Craig Counsell wouldn’t say whether or not Lohse would get another start.
Lohse gave up his 25th home run of the season, a solo shot to Addison Russell in the second inning.
Clayton Richard was called up from the minors to make a spot start for the Cubs. he allowed a run on five hits and helped Cubs pitchers retire 16-straight Brewers during one stretch.
The Brewers scored twice in the ninth to pull within a run, but pinch-hitter Logan Schafer lined out to end the game.
The Brewers open a three-game series against the San Diego Padres at Miller Park toight.
