The mystery surrounding the disappearance and death of a Fox Valley doctor has ended. The Brown County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that the manner of death of Dr. Jeffrey Whiteside of Grand Chute was suicide. Door County Sheriff Chief Deputy Pat McCarty said toxicology tests did not find any drugs or alcohol in Whiteside’s system. A revolver found near Whiteside’s body was traced to a sporting goods store in Iowa. The .22 caliber Ruger had been fired once.
Search warrants were obtained to view contents of a cell phone recovered from the scene. The phone was examined by an analyst with the Brown County Sheriff’s Office, but investigators were unable to get information. Whiteside is estimated to have died June 29, the same day he was last seen alive at his family’s boat slip in Ephraim, after he and his wife had an argument. A K-9 search team found the body July 22nd following an extensive search.
