The 3rd ranked Wisconsin women’s hockey team opened the flood-gates with a four-goal second period and went on to beat Providence 5-1 in their non-conference college hockey opener on Friday night in San Jose, California.
Five different Badgers scored goals as Wisconsin outshot the Friars 38-19.
Annie Pankowski redirected a shot for the first goal of the season. Sarah Nurse, Mikayla Johnson, Molly Doner and Katy Harding all found the back of the net for the Badgers. Johnson also had two assists.
Wisconsin’s defense was dominant down the stretch. They held the Friars to just two shots on goal in the third-period.
Ann-Renee Desbiens stopped 18 shots in the victory.
The same two teams will wrap up the California series with the puck dropping this afternoon at 5:00 p-m Central time.
