The Milwaukee Brewers are expected to get left-handed reliever Will Smith back in their bullpen this week.
Smith wrapped up his rehab work with Class AA Biloxi on Monday. He’s been on the disabled list since the start of the season after suffering a torn ligament in his right knee.
Smith appeared in three games with Class A Brevard County (2) and Biloxi (1). He pitched a total of three innings, allowing one hit and striking out five.
Brewers manager Craig Counsell said the Brewers will give Smith a couple of days off before activating him on Thursday when they start a four-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Smith will give the Brewers a left hander in the bullpen after losing Chris Capuano to the disabled list last week.
After Smith injured his knee while trying to take his shoe off, he decided to skip surgery, opting instead to rehab the knee. He provides a big boost to the Brewers bullpen after going 7-2 with a 2.70 ERA in 76 appearances last season.
