An Appleton police officer and a second person were shot early Saturday morning, when a suspect managed to get the officer’s gun. Both survived the shooting. The 23-year-old suspect turned a gun on himself.
Police Chief Todd Thomas says the man was suspected of stealing cigarettes at two gas stations on the east side. A patrol officer spotted him, in the 900 block of Kensington Drive, just after midnight. Thomas says the man brutally attacked the female officer, and got her gun.
Thomas says two men stopped to help the officer. The suspect shot the officer in the hip, and one of the men in the upper chest. Both are recovering at a hospital.
Green Bay police are investigating the shooting. Police aren’t going to provide any more details, until that’s finished.
