Closing arguments will take place this morning in a federal lawsuit challenging several recent changes in Wisconsin election laws.
The case focuses on over a dozen voting-related laws passed by Republicans in recent years, which include the state’s voter ID requirement and restrictions on early voting. It was brought by the liberal One Wisconsin Institute, which claim the laws discriminate against minorities, the poor, and young voters.
The state contends there’s no evidence the changes have suppressed voter turnout, while noting officials have worked hard to make sure qualified voters are able to cast ballots.
A ruling in the case is expected by the end of next month.
