There were some very scary moments at the Henry Vilas Zoo Wednesday afternoon.
According to a release from the Madison Police Department, a 52-year-old Madison man was arrested at gun point near the polar bear exhibit just before 4:30 p.m.
Police say Francis Thompson was found unconscious behind the wheel of the car at a café near the zoo. After he was awakened by a detective, he allegedly drove away, parking in the zoo administration lot off of South Randall Street.
Police say Thompson went over an 8 foot zoo fence into a restricted area behind the polar bear exhibit. He was eventually arrested and heroin was found in his wallet.
Thompson faces the following charges: reckless driving-endangering safety, 2nd offense – operating under the influence, possession of heroin, resisting/obstructing and possession of drug paraphernalia.
