Sheboygan police and sheriff’s deputies had an interesting morning dealing with a wandering bear. Dispatchers got a number of calls early Tuesday morning of a black bear wandering around the north side of the city.
Police and sheriff’s officials got in contact with the bear and kept an eye on it while getting ready to tranquilize it. The bear was hit with several darts and brought to the ground.
Sergeant Joel Kuczynski says they were able to get the bear under control and tranquilized. “With help from Dr. Travis from the Sheboygan Animal Hospital, we were able to get some more medication to put the bear into a sedated state and the DNR took possession of the bear and will be releasing it in the wild.”
Kuczynski say no injuries were reported and that the bear is going to be okay. In the future, he reminds residents that bears are wild animals, and if they see bears or other animals like them to just keep a good distance and don’t interact with it. Call police and let them handle the situation.
