A man who was shot and killed by law enforcement in Lincoln County on Tuesday has been identified. Fifty-year-old Scot A. Minard of Eagle River was killed after an exchange of gunfire at the end of a high-speed car chase.
Minard fired shots at an Antigo police officer during a traffic stop on Tuesday morning. That started a chase on Highway 64 from Langlade into Lincoln County. Minard fled with his gun onto private land near Hillview Road in Pine River after police used tire spikes to disable his vehicle.
Minard got out of his car and took cover while still holding his gun. He eventually fired his weapon at officers, four of whom returned fire, hitting and killing Minard.
Antigo Police Officer Joseph Husnick and three other officers have been put on paid administrative leave while the shooting is investigated. Husnick has worked for the department for five years, and began the traffic stop because the vehicle that Minard was driving had a license plate that was not registered to it. The unnamed officers are two Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies and one Langlade County deputy.
The state Department of Justice will investigate the shooting.
