Zach Davies turned in another solid outing as the Milwaukee Brewers knocked off the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-4 at Miller Park. The Brewers captured three of four in the series.
Davies allowed three runs, only two earned in 6 1/3 innings, while striking out five. He improved his record to 8-4 on the season.
Davies started slow, allowing a pair of runs in the first inning, but rebounded strong. Arizona’s Yasmany Tomas’ two-out double drove in a pair for the Diamondbacks. But Davies retired 14 of 15 hitters at one point and improved to 6-1 with a 2.40 ERA over his last 10 starts. He also improved to 3-0 with a 1.74 ERA in four July starts.
Kirk Nieuwenhuis and Hernan Perez both homered for the Brewers in the victory.
Jeremy Jeffress, in his first save opportunity since the all-star break, worked the 9th inning for his 24th save.
The Brewers home stand continues tonight when they host the Pittsburgh Pirates in the first of a three game series at Miller Park.
